Ashby police share Halloween safety tips
The Ashby Police Department released Halloween safety tips Oct. 30, covering costume safety, trick-or-treating precautions and driving advice for residents.
The Ashby Police Department issued a set of Halloween safety tips on Oct. 30 as residents prepare for trick-or-treating and other holiday activities.
The department advised parents to check that children's costumes fit properly so they do not trip, and to make sure clothing does not snag on objects. It recommended costumes be made of flame-resistant materials and said kids should carry flashlights or glowsticks and wear reflective strips to stay visible while trick-or-treating.
The department also urged families to set expectations before children head out for the evening, including knowing which neighborhoods trick-or-treaters plan to visit and making sure groups stay together. Police reiterated that children should never enter a stranger's house or vehicle.
For adults, the department asked drivers to go slowly and cautiously through residential neighborhoods. Anyone attending a Halloween party was told to have a designated driver and never drive after drinking alcohol.
