ASHBY — The Ashby Select Board adopted a Complete Streets Policy and authorized the town administrator to sign a three-year highway union contract. Planning Board Chair Andrew Leonard told the board the policy carries no construction mandate, saying "that is literally the limit of the requirement," but warned that skipping it would push grant applications "underneath all the rest" for programs like the state's one-stop grant and CDBG funding. The board also approved a $400,044.27 vendor warrant, including $300,000 to contractor PJ Albert for Old Northfield Road paving, and appointed David Nadeau to the Wannacusic Regional Transit Authority board, 2-0 with Nadeau abstaining.
Officials separately said the town's transfer station sold just 10 permits on one recent Saturday despite a Department of Revenue mandate requiring the fee, and said a $400 annual permit would be needed to break even. Organizer Heather Perry told the board the proposed Ashby Evergreen charter school expects a decision on DESE's final-charter invitation by early October, with a possible September 2027 opening.
